POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for performing a variety of electrical tests on magnetic parts, subassemblies, and completed units. Ensures that all products meet electrical specifications outlined in drawings and identifies causes of unit failures when applicable.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review manufacturing traveler instructions for electrical requirements
Test single and three-phase transformers and inductors in accordance with specifications
Verify calibration of all electrical measuring equipment (e.g., digital voltmeter, frequency meter, inductance bridge, ohmmeter, auto-multiple tester, etc.)
Ensure all parts conform to electrical drawings and requirements
Perform pre-potting electrical verification prior to encapsulation of parts
Conduct quality conformance inspections for completed parts
Initiate non-conformance reports for any parts not meeting requirements
Maintain cleanliness of testing areas and equipment
Lead daily testing of transformers and controls
Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with units under test
Prepare test files, forms, and Certified Test Reports using PC tools and manual calculations
Develop detailed test plans for scheduled transformers using customer specifications, test specs, drawings, standards, and manuals
Collaborate with engineering for clarifications and technical support
Maintain professionalism while representing the test department
Maintain and repair test equipment, ensuring calibrations are completed on schedule
Identify and act on opportunities for process or quality improvements
Communicate engineering changes and non-conformances to the quality team
Provide training and work leadership to test technicians on equipment setup, operation, maintenance, and diagnostics
Participate in commissioning and testing of mobile substations
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
WORK CONTACTS:
Regular interaction with supervisor, production manager, and human resources.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds
Must remain in a stationary position approximately 50% of the time
Frequent movement throughout the testing area and production plant
Regular communication with supervisors and managers, requiring accurate exchange of information
Must be able to read and interpret policies, procedures, and safety documentation

SAFETY:

Verify test equipment is in proper condition and safe for use
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work performed throughout facility as needed
Noise levels vary from moderate to quiet
Environments range from climate-controlled spaces to standard manufacturing areas
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or GED, plus six months of related experience/training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Basic knowledge of transformer construction, testing, and troubleshooting
Proficiency with test equipment such as digital multi-meters, ohmmeters, volt meters, wattmeters, megohmmeters, oscillators, and power amplifiers
Ability to read and interpret work instructions, schematic diagrams, safety rules, and manuals
Understanding of basic electricity (AC and DC)
Ability to perform basic math
Capable of lifting up to 25 pounds
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
Ability to apply practical problem-solving and follow written/oral instructions
Adaptability to changes, delays, or unexpected events in the work environment
